Terribly sorry this is getting posted so late in the day, but we've had rolling blackouts all afternoon and evening. Hopefully the fic will make up for my tardiness!

Optional Request: John/Rodney in the fic.

Notes: I actually rewatched the Stargate film in preparation for the ficathon. I laughed when the elevator started announcing the floors. Seemed like I needed to work that in.

The story I started to write grew legs and ran off with me, but this little plot bunny has been fairly insistent and fit the bill nicely for green_grrl’s prompts, I think. Many thanks to the incomparable, inimitable, incredible S for the quick turnaround beta, to [personal profile] princessofgeeks for admin duty, and to green_grrl for the lovely inspiration. Title from Rupert Brooke’s poem ‘The Soldier.’

Story is up over at AO3.
