Timeline Note: Don't panic. This fic takes place post-series, post-movies and into SGU, but if you've only seen the first few seasons of SG-1, it'll be fine. Here's some info about SGU.

Stuff happened and a crew of an SGC outpost was transported to the Ancient ship Destiny. The crew is a mix of military and civilians - the IOA is involved. Destiny is really, really far away, and only contact with Earth is through the Homeworld Security Command, which Jack runs. They communicate using the Ancient communication stones - they body swap with volunteers at Homeworld Security. Canon isn't clear on the exact location of Homeworld Security, but I placed it in DC.

Title: Feels Like
Author [livejournal.com profile] padfootthegrim
Written for: [livejournal.com profile] nophoenix
Word Count: 3,600
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: If I owned Stargate, it wouldn't be suitable for general consumption.
Summary: He never realized how stiffly Jack held himself around them. Seeing him like this stirred up images in Daniel’s mind; fuzzy memories of sitting on a couch, sipping a beer and watching Jack go nuts over a hockey game on the TV. Daniel was surprised to feel his chest tighten at the image. There was a certain… fondness… that the memory invoked.
Notes Written for Redd (nophoenix) for the 2010 Jack/Daniel Ficathon. Redd wanted 1. Ocean, 2. First time, with the option of post-Decention. Hope you like it! Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melayneseahawk for the extension and for organizing this!

It started- again, for Daniel- with the ocean on P7Z-418.

(PS: Dear mod, I think I need a written for nophoenix tag. Thanks!)

Jack kept from pacing through concerted effort only. He had been a general for long enough that it was ridiculous that it still felt like a mere handful of weeks, he was convinced he had only one hair follicle left that wasn’t gray, and right now he had a sense of impending catastrophe and four teams out in the field. Of those four, SG’s four, seven, and eleven had all checked in recently without issues. Which left lucky number one, of course. Jack just knew he shouldn’t have gotten up this morning. He didn’t know what was about to go wrong with SG-1, but he was convinced to his twitching toes that it was going to be a doozy. After all, he hadn’t had a near disaster in what, three days?

The klaxons blared and he raised an eyebrow as the tech identified SG-1’s IDC.

“Bring them home,” Jack said mildly, heading down to the gateroom, reminding himself not to hold his breath. Hammond never looked like he was holding his breath. Jack had to remember to ask him how he did that.

He squinted at the surface of the wormhole as SG-1 started piling through. It looked fine as Carter, and then Teal’c strode calmly down the ramp, but then seemed to pulsate and turn just ever so slightly brighter before resuming its normal appearance as Daniel came through just seconds behind the others.

Jack scowled as the wormhole snapped off.

“Carter, report. What the hell happened out there?”

Disclaimer: No profit is being made from putting my Jack and Daniel in peril.
Written For: [livejournal.com profile] theemdash
Prompt: Requirements were an #1: offworld action/adventure and #2: Jack in trouble. The optional request was for a creative offworld culture. Restrictions included #1: infidelity and #2: non-con.
Notes: Many many many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] silver_autumn for the beta, and laudations to [livejournal.com profile] melayneseahawk for not murdering me when I told her, at roundabouts 11:00pm the day these were due, that this was going to be late. I had it finished on time, but decided, while waiting for proofing, that I hated it and had to rewrite the whole thing. Which I did three times. Also, I hope that you, as the reader, can look past the minor technicality of teams not being sent to worlds where DHDs are not readily visible via the MALP, and enjoy the story for what I meant it to be.

Author's notes: I kind of got around the requirement about Carter. Sorry. I think I'm constitutionally incapable of being mean to Sam. We're both women in theoretical astrophysics, she's like a sister in arms...

Beta Post

Sep. 29th, 2010 10:15 am
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
This is a post to organize people who are willing to beta read with people who need betas.

If you are willing to beta, comment to this post with your name, some sort of contact information (e-mail is probably best), and what you will and won't beta for (ex. no spoilers past s8, nothing above R, no BDSM/heavy kink, etc.).

For example, my comment would look something like this:

Name: Melayne
E-mail: melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com
Strengths: grammar, syntax, characterization, canon
Will Not Read: AU, BDSM/heavy kink, purposeful character bashing

If you are looking for a beta, wait a little while until people comment and then e-mail your beta of choice. Make sure you don't choose the person you're writing for.

As always, you can contact me with any questions or comments, but I won't be available for beta.

Have at it!
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
This is your friendly reminder that stories are due Monday 11 October, which is just two weeks away. Make sure you're a member of the community; it's the only way you'll be able to post.

A few notes about posting:

If you're going to be late, let me know. If you need an extension, let me know. If you need to drop out (RL happens to all of us, I understand), let me know sooner rather than later. I am proud to say that everyone got a story last year and that is going to happen again this year, even if I have to write every pinch hit myself. But, it'll make my life (and those of the pinch hitters) much easier if I have a bit of warning.

Naturally, extensions will be available. I'd rather give you an extension that you don't need than have you be late. That being said, if you ask me at 11:59p on the 11th, I will not look kindly upon you. (Oh and yeah, I'm an East Coast gal, so we're on Eastern Time.)

Second, moderated posting will be turned on, so post early if you need to. But, this is reserved for RL getting in the way of posting on the actually deadline. If at all possible, post on the 11th, no earlier. If you receive an extension, still try to post ASAP.

Also, remember: keep the secret of who you're writing for. Don't post outside the comm earlier than the 11th. Don't tell anyone who you're writing for except possibly your beta. I really want to be able to make the big reveal all at once on the 11th.

Last, the posting format:

Subject Line: Fic: Story Title

<b>Word Count:</b>
<b>Written For:</b>

Please use MPAA ratings for consistency. Use your judgment on how your story should be rated.

Stories should be tagged by author, writee, genre, rating, and season. Use the tags provided. If the tag you need isn't there, drop me a note and I'll make it for you.

So, my story from last year would have looked something like this:

Subject Line: Fic: Misunderstanding
Tags: author:melayneseahawk, writee:faerie_mistress, genre:action/adventure, genre:romance, rating:nc-17, season:any

Title: Misunderstanding
Author: [livejournal.com profile] melayneseahawk
Summary: You're a much better damsel in distress than Carter. I guess it's because you have more practice.
Word Count: 3193 words
Rating: NC-17 (graphic m/m sex)
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Written For: [livejournal.com profile] faerie_mistress
Prompt: Requirements: Action/ adventure, the rest of the team should be involved in the plot line to some degree; Optional Request: Higher end rating (MA15+ or higher please), angst; Restrictions: No AU/ really OOC main characters, Neither Jack or Daniel should die (although Ascension doesn't really count as dying). Also, aliens did NOT make them do it.
Notes: Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] greensilver for the extension, and to [livejournal.com profile] starkravingsane, [livejournal.com profile] brainofck, and [livejournal.com profile] theemdash for the beta-reading, for without them this fic would ne'er have seen the light of day.

(Misunderstanding | NC-17 | 3193 words | complete)

Feel free to post somewhere else and link to it, like I did here, but remember not to post early outside the comm.

I suggest you get a beta, if only to check for typos. If you don't have a beta pool of your own, a beta post will be up with instructions on Wednesday.

As always, feel free to e-mail [livejournal.com profile] melayneseahawk at melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com with any questions, comments, concerns, etc.
[identity profile] melayneseahawk.livejournal.com
And a day early, even.

I've just finished mailing out all the assignments, so get cracking!

Just a note: when it says "restrictions", it means don't write that thing. So, if it says "Restriction: schmoop", please be schmoopless! (I realized after I'd sent them out that that might not be clear.)

If you have not received your assignment by tomorrow morning, please comment here. (Comments are screened.)

Happy writing!
