May you smell food cooking you have not eaten.
May the spring of a foreign river be your navel.
May your soul be at home where there are no houses.
Walk carefully, well loved one,
walk mindfully, well loved one,
walk fearlessly, well loved one.
Return with us, return to us,
be always coming home.'

Notes:

Warnings: Meridian fic – no fix.

I never intended to write a Meridian fic, but there was a song that just wouldn’t leave me alone, and it reminded me of Meridian, so I wrote this. Not a happy fic.

The deadline is upon us for posting for this year's Jack/Daniel SG-1 Promptathon!

Once more through the old orifice!

Instructions for how to post your story or other fanwork to this community are here.

Thanks to the lovely and talented [personal profile] killclaudio, there is a subcollection on the Archive of Our Own matching all the other subcollections down the years for this ficathon. Instructions for posting to the AO3 subcollection are here.

Thank you again to [personal profile] magnavox_23 for this year's icon!

I can't wait to read all the fic!

If you need an extension, comment here or message me on DW. I will wait a few days and then start a master list of this year's offerings.

Hello everyone! I'm pleased to say that there is now a subcollection for the 2019 Jack/Daniel Ficathon on the Archive Of Our Own!

When you post a new work to AO3, there's a field labelled 'Post to Collections / Challenges'. Type 'jd_ficathon_xv' in the field (the auto-complete should pop up with '2019 Jack/Daniel Ficathon') and your work will be added to the collection. If you've already posted to AO3, you can edit your work and fill in the collection field from there.

Alternatively, go to the subcollection page and hit the button 'Post to Collection' in the top right-hand corner. From there you can post a new work or pull from your drafts.

Works you post to the collection will not be anonymous, and there won't be a 'reveal', since it's not an exchange this year. Your work should show up in the collection, with your username attached, within a few minutes of posting.

If you have questions/problems/mistakes you want to point out you can comment here or DM me on Dreamwidth.

Two weeks left! I am so excited to read everyone's fic! \o/

I am relieved and delighted to announce that [personal profile] killclaudio is willing to be the person who sets up an Archive of Our Own subcollection for this year's Jack/Daniel promptathon. We have subcollections at the AO3 for all the years of the Jack/Daniel ficathon, even going back before there was an AO3, thanks to yeoman's work by Paian and others.

BUT...

I have never been involved in that part of the ficathon archiving!

Can whomever did that in past years get in touch with [personal profile] killclaudio and give them whatever permissions are needed to set that up for 2019? We want it to be done in the same way and linked in the same place. Thank you!!!!!

Now that the prompts have been posted, it's time for the claiming and then the fic-writing and/or art-making portion of the promptathon! Deadline is August 1!

Starting now, go to this post and reply to the comment that contains the prompt you want to create for. Simply post a reply saying "This one's mine for a fic" or something similar. First come, first served.

(It is actually okay with me if more than one person claims a particular prompt. It would be ideal if that did not happen, but if you absolutely have your heart set on a certain prompt and you are not first, that's okay. But doublecheck all the other prompts first! Maybe you can take your second choice? But if you simply must have that certain prompt, that's okay.)

(It is okay to claim your own prompt.)

If someone has claimed a prompt for a fic, and you want to do a vid or a piece of artwork for it, no problem at all. Go for it. That is awesome and that is the intention of having an all-fanworks type of promptathon.

Fic must be a minimum of 500 words.

Fanworks based on these prompts should be posted as a stand-alone post to this community on AUGUST 1. Please wait until then to post. Join the community to get posting access.

You can post just an announcement with a link here, or the entire work. If you want to post here, and at your own space and at the Archive of Our Own, or any combination thereof, that's awesome.

If July rolls along and you find you have to bow out, please reply to your original prompt comment, as you did when you claimed, to let us know you won't be finishing.

After Aug. 1, I'll give everyone a few days to post, then declare the event over for this year. I will then make a masterpost of everything and post it here to close out the event.

(I am technologically incapable of creating a subcollection at the AO3 for this year; if someone knows how to do that, please volunteer!)

When you post your announcement or your fic here, use this format:

Subject Line: Fic: Story Title

Title:
Author:
Summary:
Word Count:
Rating:
Disclaimer:
Prompt (include the author of the prompt):
Notes:

Please use MPAA ratings. Use your own judgment on how your story should be rated.

Stories should be tagged by author, genre, rating, and season. Use the tags provided. If the tag you need isn't there, drop us a note and an admins will make it for you.

Example:

Subject Line: Fic: Misunderstanding
Tags: author:melayneseahawk, genre:action/adventure, genre:romance, rating:nc-17, season:any

Title: Misunderstanding
Author: melayneseahawk
Summary: You're a much better damsel in distress than Carter. I guess it's because you have more practice.
Word Count: 3193 words
Rating: NC-17 (graphic m/m sex)
Disclaimer: Not mine.

Prompt: Action/ adventure, the rest of the team should be involved in the plot line to some degree; Higher end rating, angst.

Notes: Many, many thanks to trelkez for the extension, and to starkravingsane, brainofck, and theemdash for the beta-reading, for without them this fic would ne'er have seen the light of day.

Use your own judgment and current typical conventions for your metadata when you post a piece of art, photo of a craft, vid, etc.

If you have questions, email me at princessofgeeks at hotmail, message me through Dreamwidth, or comment on a current post at my own DW journal.

Tomorrow is the last day to post prompts for the Jack/Daniel Promptathon 2019.

Post explaining everything is here
princessofgeeks: (JD19 by magnavox23)
[personal profile] princessofgeeks
PROMPTS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Instructions on creating fanworks for the 2019 Promptathon are here.

I am delighted to announce this year's event, a Jack/Daniel SG-1 promptathon, which is offered in place of the traditional ficathon.

This post is for commenting with your ideas for prompts for fic. Art can also be made for the resulting fic (or it could be a standalone piece of art). Instructions for claiming prompts will be posted later.

Please comment on this post through June 20 with prompts. Please read this entire post before commenting. One prompt per comment.

Anyone will be able to claim a prompt or prompts as the basis for a fic and/or art. Fic will be a minimum of 500 words. After June 20, instructions will be posted about claiming prompts, and also the posting guidelines for the fic and/or art.
Please DO NOT comment with opinions about the prompts, or make any other comments in this post, except for actual prompts. If you have questions, email me at princessofgeeks at hotmail, send me a DW message, or comment on the post about this promptathon on my own journal, [personal profile] princessofgeeks.

You do not have to commit to writing a fic or art to make a prompt. One DW account can make up to 10 prompts. Anonymous prompts are allowed.

Please put each prompt in a separate comment.

What makes a good prompt? Opinions vary. I hope we will get lots of different types of prompts to suit all writers' preferences. Because of the nature of this type of event, writers may not perfectly execute all elements of the prompt, but writers should look for a prompt they actually can write. Thus, when you claim a prompt, you should not plan to make major deviations from the prompt. If you need to do that, pick a different prompt. Or avoid all that by posting a prompt YOU would like to write, and claiming it later, or get a fandom friend to do so for you. Don't twist a prompt beyond all recognition. If you claim a prompt and find you can't write it, break free from the promptathon and just post the resultant fic on its own wherever you post your fic. Don't refer back to the promptathon in that case.

When posting prompts here as comments, you can post anonymous prompts, or post under your DW identity, or both, but please limit yourself to 10 prompts total.

Suggestions for prompting (mix and match!):

^ Include the rating you would like to see. Friendship-only prompts are great! Smut-only prompts are great! Anything in between is great! However, remember this is a Jack/Daniel event and that should be the focus. Plot suggestions are great! Tropes are great! Genres like "first time" or "angst" are great!

^ Prompts should be fairly short...3-4 sentences at most.

^ Prompts that are a line of poetry or song lyrics, or a brief thematic suggestion, are beloved of some writers.

^ Prompts that suggest a crunchy factual plot line, or literal elements that a fic should include, are also beloved.

^ Prompts that suggest an episode tag to a specific episode, or a specific gapfiller (such as "after Season 8", or filling in the neglected aspects of Daniel's descensions) are wonderful too.

^ Prompts that suggest including specific characters from the show besides Jack and Daniel are fun too.

^ If you would like to prompt our writers and artists to create something related to YOUR OWN posted fic or art, that is fine, but you can't post anonymously if that is your desired prompt. Include a link to the fic or art.

^ Mentioning things you would NOT like to see in the plot, like bloodplay, adultery, or underage sex, is great.

DO NOT:

^ Post prompts that require turning a member of the original team or the Seasons 9-10 team into a villain or an antagonist, or require the bashing of a specific character. (Exceptions: In "Absolute Power," we have a canon AU in which Daniel does some terrible things, and of course any fic about that episode will include Daniel as he is depicted there. In S9 "Ripple Effect," we see a canonical AR team that does some questionable things that would be out of character in the main universe. That's fine.) Prompts with character bashing like this will be deleted by Princess of Geeks, your self-appointed promptathon ruler. I'm specifically thinking of fic that bashes Sam Carter. Do not want. I am the Princess, I am in charge, and that is not something I'm going to preside over. This canon has plenty of tasty yummy villains to incorporate if you need an antagonist or someone to harm your heroes. Deletions of prompts of this type are purely at my discretion, period.

DO NOT:

^ Post prompts suggesting sequels or gapfillers to some other writer's existing fanfic, or remixes of other writers' existing fanfic. That is beyond the scope of this event and your Princess feels that within our community, such writing would at a minimum for courtesy require prior permission from that fan writer. Your ruler is not prepared to bird-dog all that. If you want to host a remix event, please do so. This is not that. (I know that some writers have posted blanket permissions for people to remix their fic; I have done this myself. If you feel extremely strongly about this in regard to your desired prompt, and there is such a blanket permission, email me and we'll discuss it. But I really don't want to get into that.)

PROMPT EXAMPLES: See the first comments.

(Again, please post one prompt per comment. Limit yourself to ten prompts maximum. No comments except prompts on this post.)

You will see that I've posted some prompts to kick us off that also serve as examples. These are also real prompts that can be claimed. If you have questions as you draft your prompt, feel free to email me at princessofgeeks at hotmail before posting it. You can also send me a DW message.

Would you please comment here if you are interested in writing for a Jack/Daniel ficathon in 2019? And would you indicate if you would prefer the traditional story request that is matched with a writer, or a promptathon where many people suggest prompts and people who want to write claim them?

So just, "Yes I would write" and " I would prefer ficathon/promptathon/no preference."

If you've already responded at my journal that's fine too.

Notes:  Please accept my apologies for not getting this posted sooner.  Real Life has been beyond hectic the last few months.  Many thanks to [personal profile] ancientmuse  for the beta and [personal profile] magnavox_23  for her pearls of wisdom.

Daniel could only remember looking across at Cameron Balinsky as the man rose to his feet and slapped 1300-year-old dust off his BDU pants, the moment memorable because this was their fall-out event, where the wall Daniel had been called to inspect had come crashing down around them.  Geology aside, because even though Balinsky’s interest for this mission teetered more towards rock formations and less towards bodies and carbon dating, the presence of skeletal remains turned Daniel’s fascination with a row of unique pictographs into disappointment as they crumbled away.
