Title: Second Impressions
Author: [personal profile] justhuman
Fandom: SG-1 - Pern Fusion (with some some SGA for good measure)
Rating: G
Word Count: 6406
Warnings: None
Pairings: This one's hard to characterize. Arguably it's Jack/Daniel, but maybe not what you expect. There's a lot of mentions of other "canon" and non-canon pairings. Look it wasn't up to me -- the dragon always chooses.
Summary: Did I mention that this is !crack? Good. Now that we have that out of the way -- Harper Daniel has been recruited for a special project at Benden weyr and finds more than he bargained for.
Prompt: Actual prompt - Crossover with McCaffrey's Pern. First mating flight ever between two bronzes or between a bronze and a green/brown/whatever-works-for-Daniel, Jack being the bronze rider, Daniel the other.

Words I actually worked with - Jack, Daniel, Pern, bronze dragon, whatever-works-for-Daniel

A/N: Written for the [community profile] jd_ficathon Promptathon. Many, many thanks to [personal profile] paian for her thorough and much needed beta skills. Of course, this crack!and everything in it are my fault.

Second Impressions - AO3 / DW / LJ

This is a reminder that posting ends on Thursday, 30 June, 2011. At that point, moderated posting will be turned back on, and the comm will start gearing up for the main ficathon this fall.

You are welcome to continue using the prompts for inspiration, but it would be great if you could link back here to say that you used them.

Happy writing!

For the J/D 2011 Promptathon

Rating: R
Prompt: Crossover with McCaffrey's Pern. First mating flight ever between two bronzes or between a bronze and a green/brown/whatever-works-for-Daniel, Jack being the bronze rider, Daniel the other.
Notes: It’s been a while since I read any Pern canon, so please forgive any serious breaches of accepted notions of Weyr personalities and traditions. Fortunately, nothing’s been written about the 7th Pass, so I’m not screwing anything up too royally. Many thanks as always to the gracious [livejournal.com profile] princessofg  for her beta work.

O to speed where there is space enough and air enough at last!
— Walt Whitman, One Hour to Madness and Joy, 1860.
==================================

High Reaches Weyr, 10th Turn of the 7th Pass of the Red Star

“And you have all the help you’ve needed to deal with the extra mouths to feed?”

“Oh yes, Weyrleader. No one will ever find the hospitality of High Reaches Weyr lacking, no matter what the occasion.” Headwoman Arminna was clearly torn between indignation at the implication that she couldn’t handle a few extra Riders coming in from Telgar Weyr, and pleasure that the Weyrleader had thought to ask. A look at his face tipped the balance, however.

“I could send up something hot for you, Weyrleader?”

He mustered up a smile. “No need, thank you. I’ll be down for dinner with the others shortly.”

She nodded and bustled out of the chamber, leaving him to drop his head tiredly to his arms. A few moments later the heavy door to his room creaked open again and a warm, callused hand cupped his neck while its partner placed a pitcher of warmed spiced wine on the table.

The Weyrleader raised his head and tipped it to look up into the clear blue eyes of his Wingleader D’nel.

Welcome to J/D Ficathon on Dreamwidth! To help this place feel more like home, I need a little help:

Artists Needed: As always, an artist is needed to create a banner and icons for the two communities. Also, I'm looking to change up the layout this year, so that's an opportunity, too.
Dreamwidth Advice Needed: I'm new to Dreamwidth, and have some questions, specifically pertaining to layouts.

Think you can help with any of these things? Drop me an e-mail at melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com.

J/D Ficathon will be doing two events this year: the normal gift-a-thon in the fall and a prompt-a-thon in May and June. Go here to vote in a poll to help decide themes. (I'm not sure if you need to have a LJ account to vote in the poll, sorry. If someone would be willing to mirror the poll on DW, I would be forever grateful.)

Questions? Comments? Comment here or e-mail me at melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com.

We're now on Dreamwidth! How exciting! The community is still under construction, but it will be ready soon.

There will be TWO events this year! This year, J/D Ficathon will be adding a prompt-a-thon in May and June. Keep an eye out for more information!

I want to help! Tell me how!

There are four ways you can help J/D Ficathon this year. They are:

Artists Needed: As always, an artist is needed to create a banner and icons for the two communities. Also, I'm looking to change up the layout this year, so that's an opportunity, too.
Taggers Needed: I'm also going to need help going through and tagging last year's fic with the standardized tags.
Dreamwidth Advice Needed: I'm new to Dreamwidth, and have some questions, specifically pertaining to layouts.

Think you can help with any of these things? Drop me an e-mail at melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com.

Wait, she said four ways!

Here's number four:
