Author's Note: This is a fusion with CJ Cherryh's "Book of Morgaine" universe, which I recently reread and loved even more than I did when I read it in the 80s. Jack/Daniel are est rel in this story. I think this story owes a debt, as well, to that strange and luminous story "Engine Summer." If you want to know more about that, ask jenlev. ;).
